Mr. Don RyanMarket Probe just completed a major study on customer advocacy for technology in enterprise markets. As part of the survey, we asked enterprise IT Decision Makers their awareness on an unaided basis of major brands across six solutions areas: hardware, software, IT services, public cloud, private cloud and converged infrastructure. Not surprisingly, Microsoft had almost 50% awareness (users were permitted to name one brand in each category).  Dell led the hardware category with roughly 35% awareness.




Awareness of IT Brands
What did surprise us is that Google and Amazon had roughly the same awareness for public cloud services as IBM and are within shouting distance of Microsoft. HP was also a big winner for converged infrastructure, leading all brands in awareness with an 11% rating. This underscores that all the effort that HP has been doing to promote itself as the converged infrastructure leader may be paying off.

The following chart shows a more detailed view of public and private cloud services. The big winners are IBM and Microsoft for private cloud services. Google and Amazon, both known as consumer brands, have surprisingly high awareness among ITDMs for public cloud services.
